Why do my tennis strings break so quickly?
I use a red wilson nCode raquet with synthetic gut strings. Just recently I broke my strings after playing with it 3 times. I do play with heavy top spin, but I feel like it should last long than the 2 days that I've had it. Can anyone explain why this happens and what string I should consider?
Its ok, its very normal for heavy hitting players to break string often. I, like you, break strings every 6 hours worth or playing.
The reason you break them is because of the wear from the mains (up and down, vertical strings). They move and slide against the cross strings (horizontal side to side) causing friction. Eventually the MAINS will break.
So heres your solution. You need to switch you mains to a tougher string so they dont break. In fact after you make this string switch you will start breaking crosses (which takes much longer to do).
Here are you options for the mains:
1. Babolat Pro Hurricane (what nadal uses)
2. Luxilon ALU Big Banger (also extremely popular)
Both of these are extremely difficult to break. Get those on the mains and whatever you wish on the crosses (probably whatever synthetic gut you are currently using). This will do the trick.
If you still arent satisfied with the strings you can string the whole thing with pro hurricane or big banger. Although, this to me is uncomfortable because they are such tough strings....i like the softness of the hybrid (1/2 and 1/2).
Enjoy!
