The region the water is a natural creation, however. It was formed by the construction of a hydroelectric plant in 1959.
The forest surrounding the warm weather holds of the region and humid throughout the year. The average temperature is a steady 17 C.
Rowing coach Zhang Guiting discovered the secluded water area. Was impressed by the tranquility of the area and its wide variation of water conditions, which is ideal for canoeing and rowing training.
In 2000, the team national rowing was looking for a suitable place to train athletes for the Games of Athens 2004. The team was informed of the training base, which had bought the agency Zhejiang sports to 1.64 billion yuan in 1999.
The General Administration of Sport invested another 50 million yuan to review Qiandao lake, adding world-class canoeing and rowing machines for team training.
