Ace Tennis Racquet
This is perhaps one of the most common tennis questions I receive from my readers. I make no secret of telling them that the service is the most important shot in tennis, bar None. Do not get me wrong, service, or "service" is not the most important aspect of the game of tennis, but the shooting of singles tennis, the service is king.
Why?
It simply means that the service is the only shot that 100% of the time:
- Allows the server to select Instead of hitting the ball.
- Allows the server to choose what is taught around the ball.
- Allows the server to choose the speed at which hit the ball.
- Allows the server to win the point without the ball ever hit the opponent's racket at any time during the point being played.
- Allows the server to hit a second serve after missing the first.
- Allows the server to dictate how the start point.
While this is an incomplete list of all of the kick that a tennis player has at his disposal when given the chance to hit a first serve, the above should be enough to convince anyone of the first service of the state as the most important shot in tennis. Further evidence of the importance of the first service comes when we look at where their value is derived in the tennis court in a strategic sense:
- A player can win a game with a first service only. This is true any other shot in tennis, which is not the return of serve (Which, incidentally, is the second most important stroke in tennis.)
- A player with a great first service does not have to work so hard to hold serve as an opponent to the weakness of the service, which is based on his groundstrokes and / or downloads earn enough points to hold serve.
- A player with a big first serve can force a weak return his opponent's service, which the server an opportunity to end the point quickly.
- A player with a great first service need not be so worried about having to face a strong return by the opponent compared to a player with a weak first serve.
- A player with a strong first serve has more confidence in their ability to maintain service reducing emotional stress, which gives them greater ability to focus on the task at hand.
In 2004, Andy Roddick, who was # 1 in the world at the moment and has the world record fastest service in a game (155 mph), said this about the importance of their service:
"One day I was practicing and bother me. "
"I just stepped to the line and took a perverse twist it (the ball) without really going through the motions own, and went, and I did it again and went back, and it was very hot, and the rest is history. "
"But from that day, it's just always there for me, all I can trust. "
"I am grateful for my service, because that has saved me many times."
"I allowed to win games right away the first time he went on tour, although I was not willing, because he had a weapon that could go. "
"Since then I've been learning on the trot, improving other areas of my game. It is also used in the other. If I'm having a really good day serving and you're thinking there's no way in hell that will break serve, and suddenly it's 30 all in their service, they know if they have lost his serve, the set is over. "
Have you read anything in that interview about how he is happy to "put the ball in play?" Neither do I.
Read more aspects Featured again:
"... It has always been not just for me ..."
"... The only thing I can trust."
"... I have saved so many times."
"... What a weapon that could go."
While in no means a player must be based only on his first serve to win games, read what Andy says about the importance of their service, along with the benefits mentioned above should serve to entrench the importance to have solid proof, reliable first service in its arsenal, and offer the first service is in fact the most important shot in tennis!
